From your answer sheet to a result you can inspect.

BrightStep compares the answers visible in your sheet with the published HEC key for the exact examination you select. You can inspect each detected response and review uncertain marks.

Choose the exact examination

Select the date, programme, category and booklet colour. These details identify the key; a year or a colour alone is not enough. Open the official source link if you want to confirm the document before checking your sheet.

Upload a clear image

Use an original photo or a supported scan. The reader checks the image and attempts to align the answer grid before measuring the marks. A cropped or unreadable row is different from a genuinely unanswered question.

Follow the photo guide

Which answer sheets can it read?

The reader supports regular 100-question grids arranged as two columns of 50, four columns of 25, or five columns of 20 questions, with A–D or A–E options. Confirm the orientation, option count and question numbering before using a comparison. A different layout, missing rows or an unreadable image may require alignment or a new photo; unsupported sheets should not be treated as successfully checked.

Review every answer

Open a question to compare the photographed mark, detected response and key answer. Filters help you find correct, incorrect, blank, multiple-mark and uncertain responses. Correct a recognition mistake only when the photo supports your choice; the original detection and your correction should remain distinguishable.

How reliable is the photo reading?

Development checks include generated sheets with known answers, rotation, faint marks, multiple marks and gentle paper curvature. One real HEC candidate-copy photo has also been compared question by question with a visual transcription. This is a limited validation set, not evidence of an accuracy percentage across all HAT sheets or phones.

Faint carbon transfer, stray ink, shadows and overlapping marks can change the reading. A blank response and a response the reader cannot confidently interpret are different states. Inspect the photographed row, keep doubtful marks unresolved, and retake the photo when necessary.

Understand the estimate

The summary depends on the selected key and reviewed responses. Unresolved marks should remain visible rather than becoming hidden guesses. A carbon copy can differ from the original sheet submitted to HEC, so this checker does not predict exactly how an official scanner will treat a doubtful mark.

BrightStep is independent of HEC. Use the official result for applications and other decisions that require an authenticated score.
