HAT test results: official scores and answer-sheet checking.
For an official HAT test result, start with HEC's Result and Keys page and follow its result link to the ETC portal. BrightStep is an independent HAT answer-sheet checker: it compares the responses visible in your copy with the matching published key, rather than issuing an official result.
Check an official result through HEC
HEC's Result and Keys page brings together its published answer-key notices and the link used to check results. Open that official page, then follow the result link and the instructions shown by HEC. Check that the examination and candidate details belong to your own test before using the result.
Use the official score or scorecard wherever an application asks for an authenticated result. BrightStep cannot access your HEC account, retrieve a result using your CNIC, change a published score or decide whether you qualify for a scholarship.
An answer key and a result are different
An answer key lists the answers published for a particular paper. A candidate result records the official outcome for that candidate. HEC publishes keys so candidates can compare them with the carbon copy of their OMR answer sheet; publishing a key does not by itself mean that an individual result is available.
Do not rely on a fixed release promise such as the next day. Check HEC's current notice for your examination. If a result or key has not been published, another website's estimate or a nearby session's document cannot replace it.
Estimate your answer matches from your sheet
If you have your marked copy and its matching official key, you can make an independent comparison. Select the exact test date, programme, category and booklet colour in the checker. Choose a clear original photo with all answer rows visible, then inspect the detected responses question by question.
A mark that clearly matches the selected key is counted separately from a clear incorrect answer, an unanswered row, multiple marks and an uncertain reading. Review the photographed row before correcting a detected answer. Never choose an option just because it matches the key.
Choose the exact paper, not just the year
HAT papers from different dates, programmes, categories and booklet colours can have different keys. A correct reading compared with the wrong key still produces an incorrect estimate. Category II is a category label; it should not be interpreted as the second HAT sitting of the year.
Check the date and booklet details against your examination documents and the linked official PDF. If the exact key is missing from the catalogue, use HEC's current publication or wait for the matching document. BrightStep does not substitute a different test.
Why your comparison can differ from an official score
A carbon copy may have faint transfer, a cropped row, stray ink or two visible marks. The original submitted sheet and the official scanner may not see exactly what your photo shows. Reading errors, an incorrect key selection or an official key revision can also affect the comparison.
The checker therefore shows uncertain responses for review instead of guaranteeing a final score. A displayed answer-match count is not an admission decision, scholarship award or promise that the official marking will be identical. Follow the examination's current instructions and published outcome.
If the result is missing or looks wrong
First confirm that you selected the right session and that you are using HEC's current result instructions. Keep your own examination documents and result record privately. If you believe the official result or key contains an error, follow the support or correction process published by HEC for that test.
BrightStep can help you inspect a recognition problem in its own comparison, but it cannot submit a result challenge on your behalf or amend HEC's records. Do not send a CNIC, password or unrelated application documents when reporting a website problem.
